“Recycling Gala” To Honor Sen. Thomas Carper for Leadership on Recycling
Washington, D.C. – The National Recycling Coalition (NRC) and the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) are joining forces on July 21, 2010 to honor Sen. Thomas R. Carper (DE) for his outstanding and passionate leadership on key recycling issues. Senator Carper will be honored during the NRC’s annual “Recycling Gala” to be held in Washington, DC.
While this is NRC’s 12th Annual “Recycling Gala,” the tribute to Sen. Carper is the first time that NRC and ISRI have teamed up to sponsor this event.
In addition to serving as co-chair of the Senate Recycling Caucus, Sen. Carper was instrumental in successfully incorporating important recycling amendments in recent climate change legislation, including S. 2191, the Lieberman-Warner Climate Security Act of 2007, and S. 1733, the Kerry-Boxer Clean Energy, Jobs and American Power Act of 2009. Sen. Carper also was an early and strong supporter of the Recycling Investment Saves Energy Act of 2008, which provides accelerated depreciation of eligible recycling equipment in the first year it is placed in service.
“Senator Carper has been a friend of recycling since his days serving in the U.S. House of Representatives and as Governor of the State of Delaware,” stated NRC President Melinda Uerling. “His commitment and leadership on key recycling legislation as a United States Senator has been instrumental in guaranteeing the important role of recycling is fully recognized and incorporated into the larger climate change, environmental and economic dialogue.” “We are extremely fortunate to have such a dedicated public servant as Sen. Carper who understands and embraces the valuable role that recycling plays in our nation’s environmental policy,” ISRI President Robin Wiener said. “He is a passionate recycler who has devoted both his personal energy and staff resources to ensuring that all aspects of recycling are recognized and valued as part of our nation’s strategic approach to key economic and environmental issues. We are pleased to be able to honor Sen. Carper’s accomplishments in this way.”
The “Recycling Gala Honoring Sen. Thomas Carper” will be in the form of a cocktail reception and dinner, held July 21, 2010, at the Hyatt Regency Capitol Hill.
