Nothing
new to report
Regional
Reps
A meeting
was held last week to discuss past, present, and future duties of
regional reps. Membership development and service are a
focus.
For membership issues it will be good to establish a relationship
with
ROs for networking, etc. Will work through NRC Membership Committee
to achieve this. For service issues regional reps. can provide
contact/link within region.
Regional reps. should support regional conferences when in their
region.
Membership
Intern
- currently on staff and going through APPA list to ID recycling
contacts at APPA member schools to use in developing a contact
list. Reg. Reps. can use this list to further efforts.
Conferences Comm.
Regional
Had
a call to discuss future of regional conferences. Costs were
high last year. Determined causes and ways to try
to combat the
excessive costs. Location and scheduling are an issue. May
be better with 2 instead of 3 for better timing with holidays,
National conference
, timliness of mailings, etc. Nat'l. sponsors also a concern
(too few).
Next year… cut back to two. NE (Yale) S (Texas) hoping for March
and April scheduling. May tag on another regional event (state, RO, etc.)
to help with cost, getting attendees, logistics, etc. AZ had a very successful
state conf. with a very good instutional track that drew schools, larger
corporations, resorts, and other "institutions."
Is Yale this year too close to Boston (NE) two years ago? Not
if format is different. Erica will find out where next year's
NE RC
conference
is (usually held in June).
Did group consider the net effects on revenue to CURC if we hold two
instead of three regionals? Looking at two because of the cost drain
of three in the last year. Should analyze impact on net revenues. Not
getting enough sponsors nationally so borrowed money from revenue last
year to help cover costs this year. NRC/CURC not as successful at getting
national sponsors and mailings did not get out as early as desirable
for attendance numbers. Need to outline our expectations for sponsors
and who's doing what in what time frame.
2. Congress workshop, sessions and meetings
Pre-congress
workshop
We are
in the official NRC Conference "Program
Preview" finally! Reasonably priced food was available and has been
ordered for NC. Tour of UNC Charlotte compost AND recycling operations
will be part of the CURC workshop.
Can we provide sponsors
for speakers who do not have funds to attend? May be possible, check
with NRC if working with a sponsor to be sure
we are not doubling up on asking for money. Otherwise the day can be
a "comp" to help defray costs.
Track/Sessions
Group
Karyn
Kaplan took the lead on 3 panels (backyard/grass recycling, climate
change, commercial/multifamily). Karyn proposed a few others
based
on abstracts presented by CURC members. NRC hasn't responded to
Karyn's suggestions but she will talk to them tomorrow. Councils
hoping to
code sessions based on what might be appropriate to their members.
Annual
