1] Congress debrief

Steering Committee Meetings

Split sessions went fairly well, nice to break it up and nice to be able to get to town Sat. instead of Friday night.

Member Mtg.

Jack may have the sign in sheet. Sign up list for committees/activities went pretty well as opposed to the old "break out" session.

Workshop

Some people would have liked more time to network and chat/get to know each other. Tour was a nice idea and did provide some time for networking. Need more space or break out rooms so various round tables aren’t competing with each other noise-wise. Round table discussions were welcomed.

Track Session

Coding was a nice addition and having someone on the committee is a benefit to CURC and will allow the ability for us to create or direct sessions for our interest. Coding could use icons or something to make them stand out more and be more obvious.

Booth

Nice to have "CURC" stuff and not just a bunch of handouts from individual schools. This worked since we now have more CURC specific stuff. One of the benefits of the booth is that it serves as a gathering place for our members. NRC will be working on getting a booth banner for each council that identifies them as such and is consistent. Believe NRC is looking at establishing a committee for site related conference issues, similar to the program content committee. This committee could potentially discuss dates/timing of conference, on-site recycling and other details.

2] Committee Reports/Discussion

A. Outreach

Web page {job info, etc.}

Could make job descriptions generic instead of school-specific to avoid the problem of clearance for posting. APPA does it this way. There are basic costs to make updates/changes to our web site. Cost will vary based on what we want, how complicated, etc. At one time we discussed having a web development committee look at the web site to identify updates, changes, options, etc. so we can look at the whole picture. Erica will talk to Christine to find out the status of this, revitalize it, identify who was going to be involved, etc. Fritz will help with this group also. Budget for changes can be allocated or added to next year as necessary.

RECYC-L

Would be nice to have RECYC-L instructions or FAQs posted to the site. This could be in the member-only site as another benefit. These need to be developed, potential cost evaluated, added to the site, etc. The RECYC-L use instructions could be a part of this. Web development group can look at this.

Newsletter

a couple people suggested creating a CURC newsletter to keep members updated of activities. Suggestion to make it have some "useful" information and not just be a newsletter for the sake of a newsletter. Krista, Craig and Julie will discuss.
Standards {promotion, qualitative section, Campus Ecology} – Still need more campuses to post and/or update their information. One problem is that many schools, especially smaller ones don’t have tonnage and find it difficult to quantify this information. It also takes time to compile, post etc. when you have the numbers. Initially standards were developed as a quantitative thing because that was considered easier to identify. At this time there is some desire to explore the qualitative (e.g. where programs fall in campus structure, etc.) aspects of programs and have that information listed in the standards documents. Rob believes the qualitative stuff sounds more appropriate for a member directory than a web-based spreadsheet of data. Maybe we need to look at identifying quantitative standards as "benchmarking" and qualitative issues as "best practices" to make our "standards" more understandable to campuses. We should definitely be looking into adding greenhouse gas emission factors into standards reporting. Campus Ecology is looking at "standards" and we’d like to convince them to use ours. Rob and Kurt should be involved in this and Rob will send an e-mail asking for volunteers to help with these tasks.

Cook Book

There is discussion to do a "nuts and bolts" cookbook with basics of starting a campus recycling program. Don’t want this to supercede the promotions and education cookbook. Pam, Keefe and Karyn have volunteered to look at the nuts and bolts cookbook. Pam will send Julie and Keefe the draft of the education/promo cookbook for input, edits, etc.

B. Membership

16 new members since NRC in Charlotte.

C. Regionals

Luke and Rebecca are discussing timing of site visits this week and should get to them soon. CJ and Lanse are ready to go when site visit is complete/approved. With EPA teleconference we will essentially have 3 regionals and can hopefully use the EPA event as a trial run for the Yale and N TX regionals and future regional options.

3] EPA Satellite Teleconference

EPA partnering with CURC/NRC for a February broadcast of a satellite forum on campus waste reduction. CURC will promote, help with speakers, etc. We need to know what the next step is and what CURC should be doing. Craig will look into the status of the event and planning and will communicate the information/update to Dale, the CURC point person. Steers should be looking into ability to host this event on their campuses and thinking of ideas for potential speakers.
