A] Committees

1] Outreach

a. Web Page [see outline below]

Kurt -- There is potential and benefit to having NRC host the CURC web site. Hosting, members only gate keeping, content, would work well there. Info. supported by Earth Systems can still be on the CURC site with a link back to the Earth Systems location. There might be some difficulty in NRC handling some of the more in-depth stuff like archiving of RECYC-L. Suggestion that we start fresh with our site using the outline developed as a starting point due to the need to restructure the site and make it more a “CURC” product. Style-wise we could follow the style established in the brochures used for regionals which follow NRCs style. Need to make this conversion happen in the next month or so because Kurt’s facilitation of the move is a short-term commitment. Kurt will work with the web page committee to figure out what needs to be done to make outline our web site and will talk to NRC about options, steps to move the CURC page to their site.

According to Craig we need to voice any concerns or technological needs to NRC now because there is a tech committee looking at their web site, abilities, etc. They are rethinking style, user-friendliness, etc.

Erica, with friendly amendment by Kurt: Motion to proceed with creating a new CURC web site, based on the NRC web site, which will replace the CURC Earthsystems web site by Dec. 31, 2000. Dale seconds. Motion Carries.

Kurt will work with Fritz to create an MOU (memo of understanding) outlining what the CURC/Earthsystems link or relationship is.

Web committee will handle or arrange for more information/descriptions to be added to the outline so we truly can build the site from the outline.

b. Affiliations [NWF/CE, APPA], Standards

On hold for next call.

2]Conferences

Satellite teleconference will be Feb 22 1-3 EST. Dale has a flyer and will distribute in the next few days. Speakers, content, scripts, etc. have been developed. Host information is in the flyer. Looking at having speakers & videos to keep it more interesting. If you have a video or know of one, share it with Dale. Content of the conference and videos wanted is geared toward waste prevention, recycling and procurement. UNLV, Brown, Northeastern and Seattle have been asked to provide some video. Roger Guzowski, Jack DeBell, Ann Felkel, Denny Clark are speakers selected by US EPA.

Regionals

Luke going to Yale and N TX this month to confirm sites. Dale has an offer from Utah in Salt Lake City to do something in April in conjunction with an SRO event and is holding the offer for now.

Precongress workshop made $1300 this year.

3]Purchasing

4]Membership

On hold for another call.

B] Council Leader Retreat

Waiting to secure funding to move forward with plans for this. No firm dates or other information at this time.

C] Work Plan review/preview

Need to begin looking at our work plan for next year (begins April 1). Deadline is Jan. 5 for submitting work plan to NRC. Julie will send Pete minutes related to work plan from our meeting in NC and Pete will compile and send it out to steers.

Each committee chair should look at their section of the work plan (from meeting in NC) and figure out cost associated with that.

D] Other

CURC steering committee calls will change from the first Tuesday of the month to the first Wednesday of the month beginning with December 6, 2000. Call time will remain noon Eastern.

Web Page Suggestions

Style Issues: 10/31/00

Professional Image: We need to create a professional image and be consistent by using it in everything (correspondence, brochures, web, etc.) we do. Image includes following:

Logo
Color Theme
Font
Buttons

The style needs to be worked into a graphic standard for CURC so that anyone who wants to create content for the page knows what font, size, colors, etc to use and any other standards we want to specify. Once a person or persons has created their content then they need to know where to send the content for web site publishing. We need to have information such as name, e-mail address, and phone number of the web page contact for CURC. Right now that looks like Kurt?

The outline listed "Other Ideas if Resources Allow". Here are what some of those ideas might look like:

"Professional Job Profiles" section with GENERIC job descriptions (for a good example see http://www.indiana.edu/~acui/acuires/jobprof.htm

"Peer Network" section directs members to "experts" in a particular area of interest. For a good example, see http://www.nacufs.org/resources/peer/

"Virtual Program Tours" section to feature some campus recycling programs (maybe 2 programs per month). This makes members feel "special" and they'll want to come back each month. For an example, see http://www.nacufs.org/resources/virtual_tour/

Add a "10 Reasons to Join CURC" section (if we can even think of 10 reasons to join). For an example, see http://www.nacufs.org/membership/inst.asp
