CURC Steering
Committee
April 8, 2002 Conference Call Minutes
Present:
Julie Cahillane, Pam Flattich, Rob Gogan, Roger Guzowski, Keefe Harrison,
Butch Michitson, Pete Pasterz, Erica Spiegel
Not Present:
Pat Chase, Krista Henkels, Ed Newman, Victoria Silva
1. SC Election Status
According to Butch, there is only one nominee at this time. We will
need to extend our deadline. All steers should contact and encourage
those we think
would be good and/or interested.
New extended
deadline for nominations will be Tuesday, April 16. Nominations should
still be sent to Butch. Julie will send notice of the extension to
the CURC distribution list. Pete will draft an introduction/explanation
for this notice. Ballots will go out Monday, April 22 with voting closing
on Friday, April 26.
2. Committee/Work Plan Updates
Membership
When
a state disaffiliates, their members are no longer CURC members.
How does this affect our strategy? We will need to address or target
these individuals to retain them for membership. Our affiliation
with
NRC is part of what needs to be looked at and discussed. Our
current economic troubles are making memberships, association dues,
and
the like, more problematic for many. Membership fees for colleges
and universities
are based on whether your institution is a nonprofit or a government
institution. May need to look at a separate, and fairer, category
for college and university membership dues. We also need to continue
to
develop CURC membership benefits so we can sell membership in
CURC/NRC as something with tangible benefits worth the membership
fee.
Outreach
Web
status - NRC is still having problems with members only access. The
web person from NRC has left for another job so they are
working on how to
correct the problems.
Standards
Campus profile
versus standards/benchmarking
One benefit of
the benchmarking is that members can look to schools that are doing
better than them for advice and guidance and can use this information
to inspire some competitiveness on their campus. Those doing well can
use the information to promote their program. Still should consider
combining profiles and benchmarking, possibly renaming it, etc.
Partnerships
Victoria
is interested in working with Roger on partnerships. Roger is working
on defining some parameters as to what we are thinking about
for partnerships. As far as corporate sponsorship (whatever we want
to call it), Roger is developing a monetary amount that will be acceptable
to vendors. NRC Board is considering the issue of how to connect
members with vendors without breaching membership privacy policy.
Publications
No
update yet on publications. Karyn is trying to figure out how to
provide EPA documents in a CURC member packet. Erica will contact
Karyn and Christine for a status update on the publication they are
developing.
Workshops
Krista
is working on Austin. Pete will follow up with her about this.
-- State/Regional Events - IL & MO are doing a joint conference. Julie
will contact them about the sessions offered. AZ is doing a college/university
segment at their conference. CA is doing something similar. Roger will work
on CA CURC information whether informal or formal. Pete is trying to attend
the NM state conference.
3. Other
Next
month we will be back on our regular call cycle, first Wednesday
of the month, May 1.
