Return to CURC Minutes

CURC Steering Committee
August 11, 2003 Conference Call Minutes

On the call were Pete, Pat, Sheela, Ed, Alana, Carolyn, and Angie.

Not present Michael, Julie and Rob. (Minutes taken By Angie in Julie’s absence.)

1. Officers and Project Heads

Pete explained what role the CURC Officers and Project Heads have with the Steering Committee and membership. He stated the need to elect Officers and Project Heads. As Julie had previously volunteered to continue as Secretary of the Steering Committee throughout her term we unanimously accepted Julie’s return as Secretary. Rob had mentioned to Pete his willingness to continue to work as Chair of the Benchmarking standards committee. Pete volunteered to continue as Chair if no one else wanted to run for that position. He was unanimously re-elected. After a few minutes discussion Ed and Angie agreed to be Co-Vice Chairs. As such Ed and Angie will also Co-Chair as Treasurer and work with NRC on a work plan budget to implement elements of the work plan. The Project Heads lead elements of the work plan. During discussion folks volunteered and were approved to hold the following positions as Project Leaders: Pat-electronic newsletter, Ed - seek a web-developer to hopefully recruit as a Steer, Rob- Standards/Benchmarks, Angie- Membership drive/member issues, Sheela- Spring elections, Julie and Carolyn – ABCs and Ed- Rapid Response.

Still need to fill 2 Steer vacancies with folks interested in leading a designated project; web overseer is one priority. Steers will recruit in Baltimore.

2. Baltimore Planning

• Sunday Pre-Congress 8-8:45 registration, all day workshop end at 4:00. Holiday Inn Inner Harbor, Harbor Room. CURC members $75 in advance of deadline, includes meals, at the door ALL are $100 cash or check no CREDIT CARDS.

• CURC Booth- CURC members staff booth get $169 registration deal. Invitation to Steers and membership to staff during hours Monday 10:30-5:30 and Tuesday 10:30-5:00. Angie will send sign up out to Steers. Encourage members to bring stuff from their colleges and universities to display, grab bag and promotional items.

• CURC Welcoming Saturday night – Announcement to CURC members – need to find location

• Steering Committee meeting Saturday at Sheraton Inner Harbor, Patapsco Room level III, 1-6 p.m. Pete will try to set up Conference call for Sheela and Carolyn not able to make it to Baltimore for the meeting, as they are not attending the NRC Congress.

• CURC Business meeting- confirmed with NRC for Monday Sept. 15th 4:30-6:30, still waiting for room assignment.

3. ABCs

• Creative differences have been expressed; it is a concern to how best handle the politics of this situation, and to learn from this to avoid in the next project led by volunteers.

• Agreement of Steers that voice should be professional 3rd person vs. 1st person. Steers feel strongly about the professional nature of the concept of a guide to CURC members.

• Getting DRAFT to the NRC is required under our agreement, before we can release this as a product on the web.

4. Next meeting to be determined as Labor Day is technically the next meeting date. Steers reply to Pete to select best day following Labor Day as a check in before meeting in Baltimore at NRC Congress.
