College and University Recycling Council Background
College and University Council (CURC) was formed in 1992 and became a technical council of the National Recycling Coalition in 1995. CURC is a network of campus –based recycling professionals who face similar challenges and opportunities in managing college and university recycling programs.
Mission and Goals
CURC’s mission is to organize and support environmental program leaders at institutions of higher education in managing resource, recycling and waste issues.
CURC remains the most active technical council of the National Recycling Coalition. CURC advises the national “Recyclemania” competition which compete nationally with over 400 colleges in a ten week competition.
CURC conducts educational workshops, web seminars, and pre congress workshops and hosts two booths “Recyclemania” and CURC during the NRC Congress and Exposition.
CURC’s Steering Committee dedicated over 2,500 hours of volunteer time, and maintains a very helpful website: www.nrc-recycle.org/councils/CURC on which you can find information and links to resources.
Although not managed by CURC, we encourage all College and University recyclers to join a listserve that is available with daily (or digest) discussions that relate to effective and program management. recycle-l@listserv.brown.edu
