Rural Recycling Survey: NRC’s Rural Recycling Council is surveying recyclers in our nation’s rural areas to better understand their needs and how the council can assist them. Surveys are due back to NRC by August 2, 2002. For more information, contact Carrie Hakenkamp at [email protected] or John Frederick at [email protected].
California Recycling Conference: The California Resource Recovery Association will host its 26th Annual Conference, “Raising the Bar in the 21st Century” on July 14-17, 2002 in Oakland, California. For more information, visit www.crra.com or send a message to [email protected].
Hawaii Bottle Bill: After two intense sessions, the Hawaii State Legislature passed the first bottle bill in well over a decade. As expected, opponents of the bill are pressuring the governor to veto. Although the governor has not signed the bill, he has stated that he will do so in the near future, most likely by the end of the month. For further information, contact Gretchen Ammerman at [email protected] or (808) 586-4240.
New EPA Reports: The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has released an update to its 1998 greenhouse gas report. The new report is entitled “Solid Waste Management and Greenhouse Gases: A Life-Cycle Assessment of Emissions and Sinks.” EPA has also updated it Waste Reduction Model (WARM), which enables users to calculate the impact of waste-related activities on greenhouse gas emissions.
Buy Recycled Resources: The Recycling Association of Minnesota has created two new resources on its website: “Finding Recycled Products at the Grocery Store” and “Buying Recycled for Home & Garden/Home Improvement.” The publications will help consumers as they plan their shopping trips.
